    About Endometriosis

This is a condition in which cells from the lining of the uterus (endometrium) grow outside the uterus. This endometrial tissue is commonly found on the back of the uterus, the fallopian tubes, around the ovaries(or a cyst inside the ovary), on the ligaments which hold the uterus in place or on the bowel or bladder. Endometriosis if influenced by hormonal changes and symptoms worsen with menstrual cycle. Symptoms include:

    • Fertility problems (it can cause infertility)
    • Dysmenorrhea (painful periods)
    • Spotting before periods
    • Chronic pelvic pain
    • Dyspareunia (painful sex)
    • Dysuria (urinary frequency and sometimes pain)
    • Constipation and chronic fatigue

Endometriosis is a common cause of infertility. It is estimated that 10-20% of all women have it (whether or not they have symptoms). In TCM endometriosis is under the category blood stagnation primarily. Siobhán commonly meets women with different degrees of endometriosis. Treatment is aimed at treating the blood stagnation and a specific diet to calm the immune system and foods that help with blood stagnation. This is done very successfully (please read testimonials above).
